Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2013

by Maureen McCabe on January 21, 2013

Martin Luther King ecard from Real Living

Today is a day of a lot of Martin Luther King Jr. quotes being shared on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
I won’t share a Columbus builder /realtors tasteless tweet playing on Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech.  Maybe I would NOT have even noticed the cheesy tweet  if my friend Karen Rice a real estate agent in north-east Pennsylvannia  had not asked on Facebook:
“So what exactly does it mean to say “Happy MLK Day?” For that matter the same could be said for similar sentiments about Veterans Day and Memorial Day. While all three of these days signify a victory of some sort, it is not without its solemn meaning as well.”
The observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day  is a solemn day in 2013, even with the presidential inauguration this morning.  Martin Luther Jr. King Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day will always be solemn.  Those and other observed days on our national calendar are more than a three day weekend or a day off work.
The image above is an old Real Living ecard.   Real Living was a company that was formed in 2002 based on the technology of  HER Realtors> HER Realtors  in Columbus, Ohio has been around since the 1950s.  The Real Living real estate franchise went through a number of  changes over the past decade.    Until late 2010, early 2011 Real Living  was based in Columbus, Ohio.   There was a lot of great material that was developed during the 2002 to 2010 era.
The inspirational  Martin Luther King  Jr. quote on the Real Living ecard is is from 1963 I believe:

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

I have used the image on ColumbusBestBlog.com a number of times to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
