Columbus home prices falling?

by Maureen McCabe on June 28, 2010

Are Columbus home prices falling?  A Columbus Dispatch article Sunday entitled  “Sometimes it pays to delay” says prices are down.  The Columbus Dispatch shares stories of buyers who did not buy before the April 30, 2010 deadline for the home buyer tax credits.  They believe prices are falling now.

Is it anecdotal or are  home prices going down?

Here’s a chart for all counties served by the Columbus Board of REALTORS MLS.

The graph shows single family home prices for the past 15 months.  Average active (list)  price was $226,000 in May 2010, unchanged from April 2010.  It will be interesting to see if list prices have taken a dive in June. Sold prices too obviously.  Although that may not show up until July closings are complete.

Homes with the home buyer tax credit need to close by the end of June 30, 2010.  That has NOT changed.
