“Sorry, Downtown Columbus is Closed” is a book title. I am putting the book on my Christmas list…
“Once upon a time.. “ long, long before I ever moved to Columbus there was a downtown with ladies with hats and gloves and men in fedoras and suits according to Mike Harden’s column about a book written by David Cohen.
I would never even know of the Maramor if not for a blog post with a postcard showing the Maramor on Broad Street in a downtown Columbus from another era. A catoony maplike postcard that is postmarked in the 1950’s describes “Ye Faithful Map of Ye Good Town of Columbus Ohio” and shows the Maramor Restaurant and other downtown Columbus landmark’s of long ago.

on a site called Restaurant-ing Through History, a May 2009 post tells about the Maramor Restaurant history and founder Mary Love’s philosophies about the kitchen.
Harden’s article was in the Columbus Dispatch yesterday. Today there is a new comment on the blog from Mary Love Hargreaves, Mary Love’s daughter about remembering her parent’s Columbus Ohio restaurant.

Downtown Columbus is not closed. It’s just changing… continuously.

I was born and raised in Columbus, however have lived in Boston for the past 29 yrs. I often feel terribly nostalgic for the downtown Columbus of yesteryear. I loved to get dressed up and go downtown each Sat with my mother for a fun day of shopping and eating out. This article brought a huge smile to my face and a tear to my eye. I would love to purchase several copies of Mr Cohen’s book for myself and family members. Any advice on how to do so would be greatly appreciated. Marty
