The Good News?  Columbus is NOT there… looking for nearby cities.  Detroit made the list.  Cleveland* made the 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America List this year…  Chicago is not on the list.  Visit “The Real Estate Bloggers” for the list of 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America for 2011.

Columbus sign chaned to read "Safe City"

Columbus Corporation Limit sign altered

Tom who lives in the Atlanta area but I am guessing not in the city of Atlanta says:

“Now one thing to remember is that the FBI crime data comes from the actual cities and not the surrounding geographic area. For example, Atlanta comes in at number two on the list. There are less than 500,000 people living in the actual city of Atlanta while there are nearly 5,000,000 in the metro area.”

So you are safe in the suburbs of Atlanta but not in the city?   Or the stats are about within the city limits.

The City of Columbus is big and spread out… lots of area to absorb crime data?   The City of Columbus is bigger than the City of Cleveland … although the Metro area of Columbus, Ohio is smaller than the Metro area of Cleveland, Ohio.  Lots of relatively suburban feeling areas in Central Ohio are in the Columbus Corporation Limit

Crime around Columbus

On a related note.  a national real estate site just introduced crime maps… heat maps showing home buyers where crimes are reported.  I wrote  Get the Inside Scoop on Crime Around Columbus,  to look at Trulia you might think the suburbs (the real suburbs of Columbus… ) have no crime…. as opposed to areas within the Columbus Corporation Limit in more suburban feeling areas…  Then of course maybe there is crime in Dublin,  Lewis Center, Powell, Worthington, Westerville, etc. and it’s not reported in this application.

10 Most Dangerous Cities in America  is FBI stats.

*Outside of our region, but shocking to me,  Birmingham Alabama?  Orlando Florida?  but closer to home ….in the Great Lakes states…  Cleveland Ohio in a tie with Minneapolis MN?  That amazes me…  not that I would leave my doors unlocked in a city as large as Minneapolis but my perception of the two cities is that if you left your door unlocked in Minneapolis your neighbor would come in and clean your place for you. Or make you breakfast.  Maybe I think that because I watched the ‘Mary Tyler Moore Show’ as a kid…

The info about the ”Most Dangerous Cities” in the US comes from an article on US News  about the most dangerous city…   “The 11 Most Dangerous U.S. Cities”  by Danielle Kurtzleben…
