Central Ohio Media

by Maureen McCabe on June 9, 2008

What “bias” does the Central Ohio media have? … and more importantly how is the local media “evil” …?

I am asking just about TV and print publications… because a TV newsroom blog is what has made me wonder if people in Central Ohio believe local news is evil and /or biased.

From Twitter Ryan Squire of NBC

NBCSquire @MoInColumbusOH I’d love to hear how you think we could improve so that we won’t be evil and biased. I am sincerely interested.

I quoted his blog Columbus’ “evil biased media” is blogging

I’d say the local media is biased towards fluff more than any thing else. I rarely watch the local tv news anymore. I can feel the brain cells dying when I do. The Dispatch used to be a pretty decent paper but it’s gone downhill also although they did some good work in the Marc Dann situation.

do you watch cable TV news then?

How do you find out about what is happening locally? Do you read the Columbus Dispatch for local news? Thanks for the comment Paul.

I watch cable news, surf a lot of news sites and also subscribe to a lot of internet news sites, some of which cover local news. I still read the Dispatch daily even though it has declined.

I watched the news yesterday and this morning with your “local media is biased towards fluff more than any thing else” comment in mind… I guess I have got used to that.

I think that is probably true nationally, that local news is “fluffy.” Cheaper? Easier? You can do fluff ahead… news is so darn oriented to time…

Lots of national news is pretty fluffy… Good Morning America is / was not in the news division on ABC, it was entertainment? Not sure if the other morning shows are in the news division…

I remember in the 80′s? a shift …. I know at the time I remembered enough from a journalism class in high school to think “this is not news.”

Would you recommend a good local news website?
