I feel horrible for the 70 employees losing their jobs because the Wonder Bread bakery in Victorian Village is closing in May. According to the Columbus Dispatch article written by Dan Gearino the bakery was built in 1916.
Wonder Bread bakery in Italian Village to close
The Wonder Bread sign has to stay though doesn’t it? The Wonder Bread sign is a Columbus Landmark. The Wonder Bread sign is how I find Italian Village from the highway. I wish it could be the sign and the smell that stay in Columbus if not the jobs but the smell part seems impossible. The Columbus bakery owned by Interstate Bakeries Corp. makes only hot dog and hamburger buns now…
Italian Village is not a neighborhood where I would typically show homes. I work up at the tippy top of Franklin County, mostly showing homes in Worthington, Dublin, Westerville, Lewis Center, Powell and Clintonville but I love visiting Italian Village. We just drove by the Wonder Bread building on Saturday night on the way to the Gallery Hop in the Short North.
It’s like the Hollywood sign except theirs says “H O L L Y W O O D”
Columbus’s sign says “W O N D E R B R E A D”
