Tickets to Totem: Cirque du Soleil in Columbus

by Maureen McCabe on August 18, 2013

Totem opens Thursday August 22, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio.   Totem is Cirque du Soleil‘s story about how life began on earth.  Or how life evolved.  I have not seen Totem so I don’t know how the story goes. Yet.

The Big Top will be going up at the Ohio Expo Center any day now… or perhaps the Cirque du Soleil tent is up already?

Buy tickets to Totem

Cirque du Soleil is coming to Columbus August 22 to September 15, 2013.    For tickets and show information visit

Totem Cirque du Soleil

The Cirque Du Soleil site calls Totem “A fascinating journey into the evolution of mankind”

Win two tickets to Totem

“It’s the return of the BIG TOP!  Win two tickets to see TOTEM by Cirque du Soleil, under the Big Top on the Ohio  Expo Center grounds.  Cirque du Soleil is coming to Columbus August 22 to September 15, 2013.  Here’s  a chance to win a pair of tickets…  on by commenting.

“Life began__________________”

Win a pair  of  tickets by commenting on this post!   Tell a story about the creation of earth.  Tell how life evolved.  Or did  not evolve.   You can tell the story in a few words or as  many words as you need to use.    Spelling doesn’t count.  Grammar does not count.  Craziness does not count… to me myths are crazy.    Classical mythology is crazy… Greek and Roman mythology (I believe classical mythology is the  Greek and Roman stories.)  Norse mythology is crazy, Celtic mythology is crazy…  no offense meant to Greeks, Romans, Celts, Vikings, Native American’s  etc.  Every culture has or had myths?

Myths explain the mystery of where the stars came from, where the sun came from, where the earth came from, where we came from.

Each comment on this post is an entry to win two tickets to the September 10, 2013 performance of Totem in Columbus.  Only one comment per day per email address / name  will be entered into the drawing for two tickets to see Totem.

The opportunity to win two tickets to Totem by commenting on this post starts on August 18, 2013 ends on Saturday August 24, 2013.  Seven days.  Seven opportunities.

Totem the story

Totem is a story of the creation of life and  the evolution of man, told through acrobatics by  the Cirque du Soleil performers.   Totem is performed on a stage that represents a turtle’s shell.  A turtle, amphibians, primordial ooze, trees,  monkeys… or apes, a butterfly… in the poster for Totem those creatures are part of the story of how life began and evolved according to Totem as told by Cirque du Soleil.

Do you know any creation stories? Recite a creation story in the comments.  Share a story. Or make up a creation story in the comment section of this post.   Use a few words to tell how life started.  Or use many words to tell how life on earth began.

Inniswood Garden Sky Woman

Central Ohio a Native American Story

There is a good example of a Native American story of the creation of  planet earth in Westerville at Inniswood Metro Garden.   The Native American woman in the story told in the maze at Inniswood Metro Garden,  stands on the back of a turtle.  The woman on the turtles back is “Sky Woman.    Central Ohioans and visitors to Columbus can walk through the maze in the garden at and read a Native American story of creation.

“Place it on my back” said a deep voice.

“It was the Great Turtle who had come up from the depths”

Those words are inscribed on  #45  in the story told in the maze at the garden at Inniswood Metro Gardens.  The maze in the garden has “pavers”  that tell the story of how life began.

Tell that creation story, here if you know that story.  Tell a story of creation from another culture if you know one…  make up your own unique creation story, if you are creative in that way.  Tell your creation story in seven installments.    Or six or five or four or three or two or one comment.  The more times you comment the better your odds of winning the two tickets to Totem, here.

The prize… from Live Nation and Cirque du Soleil is  two tickets to the September 10, 2013 performance of Totem in Columbus. July 2013: Two tickets to Totem

If you missed the opportunity to win tickets in July, Cirque du Soleil Coming to Town:  Totem in Columbus try in August.

Win Tickets: Earth on Turtle’s Back

Totem in Columbus Tickets the Winner is Leanna!

Leanna A.  won the  two tickets to see Totem through in July.  Leanna’s 8th comment in the July 2013 raffle won her a pair of tickets to see Totem!  The point in the July raffle was to complete a sentence about acrobatics.

**Leanna is disqualified from winning the August 2013 “raffle” for two tickets to the September 10, 2013 performance of Totem.  She’s already going to see Cirque du Soleil perform Totem in Columbus, Leanna won the two tickets in July!  Increase your odds of winning the two tickets to see Totem by following Leanna’s lead.  Comment religiously  (daily) to increase the odds of winning the two tickets offered on in August 2013.  The idea in the July drawing was to comment more than once to increase your odds of winning.  In July 2013 Leanna commented more than anyone else and it paid off.

Life Began with Xenu and the Thetans (Scientology). The thetans were an ancient race of aliens about to overthrow their ruler (Xenu) so he took them to earth and threw them in volcanos. This killed their bodies but not their souls and a few thetans survived so the ones without bodies inhabited the bodies of the living ones and became the predecessors to modern humans. You have to be “audited” by Scientologists to get your Thetan memories back. ;)

Tiffany did you have any trouble commenting?

3 Maureen McCabe August 18, 2013 at 10:09 am

Wow! Thanks for getting this kicked off, Tiffany. Good luck! This is a story I am only vaguely familiar with. I googled “Thetans”, interesting!

Comment daily for the best chance to win the two tickets from Live Nation.

With Divine intervention, the primordial ooze was again struck by lightning and this time some simple one cell life forms were created, it was a miracle!!!

Thanks, I think the comment link is hard to see on the current post. Whatever the current post is. Not sure if that is my theme or what. I will put a link to comments in the post. I think as the post goes down one slot it is easier to see the link at the bottom. I seldom look at my site NOT signed in but did yesterday.

Life began when He was. Taaroa was his name.
He stood in the void: no earth, no sky, no one.
Taaroa called the four corners of the universe; nothing replied. Alone existing, he changed himself into the universe. Taaroa is the light, he is the seed, he is the base, he is the incorruptible.
The universe is only the shell of Taaroa.
It is he who puts it in motion and brings forth its harmony

In the beginning, heaven and earth were not divided. Then, from the ocean of chaos, a reed arose, and that was the eternal land ruler

It is a creation of God and we all are players to play our role here :)

The creator Juok moulded all people of earth. While he was engaged in the work of creation, he wandered about the world and created people out of it. On one occasion the Deity said to himself, “They must be able to hear the noise of the dance and the speech of the great ones, and for that they need two ears.”

28 Slim August 21, 2013 at 05:08 pm

In the beginning of life there was only water, a chaos of churning, bubbling water, this the Egyptians called Nu or Nun. It was out of Nu that everything began.

Life began when the sun god Ra emerged out of primeval chaos, he came out of a blue giant lotus flower that appeared on the surface of the water. Ra gave light to the universe.

33 Slim August 22, 2013 at 04:44 pm

In the beginning , the heavens and earth were still one and all was chaos. The universe was like a big black egg, carrying Pan Gu inside itself. After 18 thousand years Pan Gu woke from a long sleep. He felt suffocated, so he took up a broadax and wielded it with all his might to crack open the egg. The light, clear part of it floated up and formed the heavens, the cold, turbid matter stayed below to form earth. Pan Gu stood in the middle, his head touching the sky, his feet planted on the earth. The heavens and the earth began to grow at a rate of ten feet per day, and Pan Gu grew along with them. After another 18 thousand years, the sky was higher, the earth thicker, and Pan Gu stood between them like a pillar 9 million li in height so that they would never join again.

It is said that Raven made the world. He is a man with a raven’s beak. When the waters forced the ground up from the deep Raven stabbed the ground with his beak and fixed it into place.

Life began when one day the Great Spirit collected swirls of dust from the four directions in order to create the people. These people formed from the earth had the strength of creation.

42 Slim August 24, 2013 at 09:38 am

In the beginning there was a great mound. It was called Nanih Wiya. It was from this mound that the Creator fashioned the first of the people. These people crawled through a long, dark cave into daylight. They became the first.

Am I really a piece of bacteria? Many scientists have thought that simple bacteria were the link to the earliest life forms on earth, like organisms growing on rocks. I believe both man & animal derived from living organisms from rock and the earth.

51 Maureen McCabe September 17, 2013 at 09:02 am

I saw something in the news yesterday that life came from outer space. Thanks for the comment. Bacteria? The two winners of tickets went to see Totem last Tuesday. Contest is long over and Cirque du Soleil has left Columbus.
