Memorial Day 2011 – A Forgotten History…

by Maureen McCabe on May 30, 2011

Happy Memorial Day

Today’s Nablopomo prompt is “Do you know anyone who has served (or is currently serving) in the armed services?  Talk about them”

Of course.  Doesn’t everyone know someone who has served?  I’d tell you about a Vietnam vet… but he said “You don’t blog about me do you?” Oooooh maybe I should not say that.

I could  “talk about” my World War II veteran father today.  He died in 2010.

Nope not going to “talk about” anyone.

The Ohio Historical Society shared a video on Facebook about the origins of Memorial Day…. that started out as Decoration Day.   A different perspective:

I’m off to the Worthington Memorial Day Parade.

I have only two family members to honor on memorial day. My Dad and his brother who both served in WWII, Navy and Air Force, respectively. Hats off to the men and women who are still serving our country today!
