Hill’s Market annual salmon roast

by Maureen McCabe on May 14, 2010

salmon Hills Market’s annual salmon roast is Saturday May 29, 2010.  Hills Market is at the foot of Worthington Hill on Olentangy River Road, the address is 7860 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, Ohio, 43235.   The salmon roast runs from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM.  Salmon… It’s what’s for lunch in Columbus on May 29, 2010.

#67 (I misidentified yesterday as #46. )  You know  65, 46, 67… this is #67 of  ’365 Things To Do in Columbus Ohio’

Have I ever told you I won third place in a salmon recipe contest? I have been blogging almost  5 years now… I could be repeating myself . There were four competitors.  Only three of us showed up. That was long ago and far away, the restaurant is closed. OK it was Dayton, so it is NOT that far away.  I submitted a bunch of salmon recipes including one made using canned salmon… the restaurant chose “Salmonettes Heloise” to go up against recipes made with fresh salmon.

Hello…not only was my reciped canned salmon it was deep fried canned salmon.  Could I be at a bigger disadvantage?

We cooked our recipes in a restaurant kitchen…  the other two competitors poached and broiled fresh salmon dishes and my deep fried, canned salmon bits.

I loved “Salmonettes Heloise” growing up.  We were not a “deep fry family” but we deep fried salmon.  I don’t think I met any salmon that was not canned until I was out of college. The Salmonette’s Heloise” recipe came from the newspaper.  Remember Heloise?  The original Heloise?

I loved salmon loaf too.  Grandma’s recipe.

Today I love salmon… actually for years now I have been a big fan of salmon. Poached, broiled, grilled, smoked… I have to try to remember to get to Hill’s Market’s salmon roast. It’s their 16th annual salmon roast!

The photo is from Genista.  A Seattle fish farm? Fish farms…vs. the old fashioned way… that’s ” a whole ‘nother kettle of fish.”
