Das Maifest in Columbus #71

by Maureen McCabe on May 21, 2010

Thanks to Celia for recommending “Das Maifest at the Columbus Maennerchor” as one of ’365 Things To Do In Columbus Ohio’ on Facebook.  The 6th annual Das Maifest is Saturday May  22, 2010.

Is that German Village? Or the Brewery District?

What is Das Maifest? The Columbus Maennerchor site describes Das Maifest as

“a medieval spring wine festival.”

on ’365 Things To Do In Columbus Ohio’ on Facebook Celia described Das Maifest as

“It’s kinda like the Renaissance fair, only it’s all German.”

Hmmm perhaps a spring Oktoberfest with wine rather than beer?   I see dancing around a May pole on the photos from the 2009 Das Maifest at the Columbus Maennerchor.  Maennerchor has been a  “Columbus  Arts Organization Since 1848″ … their site says so.   There is a garden,  Darby Creek Nursery has a garden.  Volkswagons….

Admission is only $5 per person… if you pre bought  a ticket and it was only $3… and the Meannerchor site says

“a glass of wine for everyone 21 and over will be complimentary with admission.”

Wow… and it is free for those 20 and under.   Actually there are  two events at the Columbus Maennerchor on Saturday, back to back because from 6:00 to 10:oo PM there is music from Bits and Pieces a Columbus R & B and jazz band.  There’s also a German buffet at the  Maennerchor Saturday evening.  I wonder how much the German buffet is?

The restaurant at the Maennerchor is ‘Zum Rathskeller.’

Thanks Celia.

Thanks for posting this for us! The glasses of wine are “while supplies last”, but we’ve never run out before the dance before :-)

The Cost of the Buffet is $12.00 for adults, and $6.00 for kids 10 and under.

We hope to see you there!

Thanks Michael …. get there before the wine runs out!

Celia’s father?

Maennerchor? With a name like O’Keefe, I’d have guessed Shamrock Club before Maennerchor!

Hello Maureen,

My family is heavily involved at the Shamrock club. I was an Irish Dancer with the Richens School (no Richens-Timm) in the ’80′s. My wife is the German Lady. What can I say? German girls are pretty..

I am Celia’s dad. She told me she told you about Das Maifest. Again, thanks for the props.
