Columbus: What are you doing on New Years Eve?

What are you doing in Columbus on New Years Eve?

Downtown Columbus from the Scioto Mile

Channel 4… has a video of things to do on the last day of  2012… New Years Eve parties in Columbus including the 80s party at the casino:

First Night Columbus

Absent from the video?  First Night Columbus.  Is Channel 10 a sponsor of First Night Columbus?

I used to go to First Night Columbus every year.  I don’t think we have gone since 2007.

Something a bit more adult?  The Hollywood Casino has a 1980s party:

“Kick off 2013 Mega 80′s style at Hollywood Casino Columbus! Enjoy live entertainment, a totally rad Epic Buffet menu, and gnarly cocktails and martinis at o.h. Join us for the biggest New Year’s celebration in Columbus and dance to the max ’til the ball comes down.”

Will it be the biggest New Year’s Celebration?  Bigger than the family friendly, no alcohol First Night event in Downtown Columbus?

The sports bar at the Hollywood Casino Columbus is called o.h.  O.K.

Transportation on New Years Eve

Ever consider  COTA or a cab?

COTA has a Night Owl special for New Years Eve.

“Leave the keys at home this New Year’s Eve, and welcome 2013 in the safest way– Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) is offering late night service on lines #21 and #222.”

“Passengers can ride either line for $2 each trip and request a free transfer ticket, good for two hours, when paying the fare. Alternatively, Day Passes are available on the bus, and good for unlimited riding, for $4.50. Drivers will accept Day Passes activated on Dec. 31, 2012 from customers boarding the bus between midnight and 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2013.

Visit the site for more details about the Night Owl Special on New Years Eve.  Looks like Night Owl Service on New Year’s Eve can get you out to the Hollywood Casino on W. Broad Street and up High Street.   COTA’s Night Owl Service on New Year’s Eve connects neighborhoods including  Downtown, Clintonville, German Village, Ohio State, Short North, Park Street, the Arena District and the Brewery District.

The Christmas Day post here on CBB said:

“One last note: Don’t Drink and Drive and that goes through the holidays.  Important for New Years Eve!    A Columbus criminal attorney emailed me a link to the post on their law blog. Staying Safe Through the Holidays “

They sent me a link not because I’m a drinker… because I’m a blogger. The full title is ‘Staying Safe & Avoiding a DUI Through the Holidays’

Stay safe this New Years Eve.

“With the holidays upon us, I would like to share a personal experience with you about drinking and driving.

As you all know, some of us have experienced brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a gathering or “social session” out with friends. Well last night I was out for an evening with some friends and had several cocktails followed by some rather nice red wine. Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That’s when I did something that I’ve never done before – I took a cab home.

Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block on High St. but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don’t know where I got it and now that it’s in my garage I don’t know what to do with it……any suggestions?”

Sorry a friend shared that on Facebook.  Thanks Brad.  It did not say High Street either.  I changed it.  I just could not resist.  Drunk driving is not funny… :- (  and this would be grand theft auto or something like that too, wouldn’t it?

CALL a cab and stay safe in Columbus on New Years Eve.
