Classic Movie Summer

NaBloPoMo May 2011

Maybe 2011

I have not seen a lot of classic movies….

Today’s Nablopomo is:  “What classic film have you never seen?”

CAPA Summer Movie Series – 2011

“Lions and tigers and bears…oh my!” the 1939  ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is first up this year.  I’ve seen it.  I love it. The movie being on television was an event in our house growing up.

Hitchcock’s ‘Frenzy’ (1972)  I don’t know that I have seen it.  I have seen a lot of earlier Hitchcock, ‘The Birds’ and  ‘Psycho” but I am not sure I have ever seen ‘Frenzy.’  Later in the season this summer is Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’ I saw that, when I was in high school.  It was an old movie then.

I have never seen ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ (2001)… a chick flick….

The movie ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ (1962)  I have  seen it a lot. I used to have the video (vhs) I loved watching this movie as a kid, to me this was a scary movie.  We read the book in high school, sophomore year.

‘High Noon’ (1952)  We saw this or part of this in my high school “mass media” class.  I don’t know that we saw the entire movie.

A double feature… ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ (1935) and ‘Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein’ (1948)  I may have seen the “Abbot and Costello” flick.  I have never seen ‘Bride of Frankenstein.’

‘The Big Sleep’ (1946)  A Humphrey Bogart classic?  I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

‘West Side Story’ (1961)  I am sure I have seen this…  probably in high school.

‘Airplane!’ (1980)  I have seen bits and pieces of it but never the entire film.

“Steamboat Bill, Jr.’  (1928)  a silent movie with the organ accompaniment?  Never seen anything like that…

Others in this years CAPA Summer Series… three I have never seen ‘Bringing Up Baby’ (1938) and ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’  (CAPA site has no date… 1950s?  1960s? )  and ‘Tron’ (1982.)  Or  I don’t think I have  ever seen those three.  Or Fight Club (1999.)  The Matrix (1999)  not sure I stayed awake through the whole movie…  I probably saw ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’  (1938) or parts of it as a kid.  I have seen ‘The Sound of Music’  (1965) but not until relatively recently.

Watching  two movies ‘Gone with the Wind’  (1939) and ‘Funny Girl’ (1968) on TV in high school or college were big events.   I saw ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ (1966) in high school and found it terrifying.

Another of my favorite  movies, ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ (1940) is part of the CAPA series this summer…. I probably only saw it once and probably have not seen it since I was a kid though.

Maybe I will go see some I have never seen… or maybe I will go see those I have seen and like…
