Ahoy Columbus: It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day 2013

by Maureen McCabe on September 19, 2013

Columbus, Ohio and the Santa Maria on the Scioto River Ahoy Mateys: It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!

This is the 10th year for the Official, International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The official  Talk Like A Pirate Day site offers help with how to talk like a pirate.

“Ahoy!“  means “Hello!”

“Arrr” is a multi purpose word.

The dictionary, a list of Talk like a Pirate pick up lines and much more is on the page.  Try to work the phrase “bilge rat” into conversation today.

Talk Like a Pirate Day at Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day today only:

The Krispy Kreme site says:

“talk like a pirate gets one FREE Original Glazed® doughnut”

wear full pirate attire goes a bounty of one FREE dozen Original Glazed doughnuts”

There are two Krispy Kreme shops in town:

Columbus (2 locations)

    Columbus- Polaris Parkway
    Columbus-West Dublin-Granville Rd

Talk Like a Pirate Weekend

It’s Talk Like a Pirate weekend at the Santa Maria. September 21 to 22, 2013 is ‘Talk like a Pirate Weekend’ at the Santa Maria   Santa Maria Crows Nest

The Santa Maria website says of Talk Like a Pirate Day:

“Ask our pirate interpreters a question and they will give you all the historic information or just listen to them give accounts of the pirates from the 18th century.”

The Santa Maria is taking a rest for awhile isn’t it?  While the work along the Scioto is completed the floating museum will be closed, I believe.   What will Columbus do on the weekend closest to Talk Like a Pirate Day in 2014?

There will be opportunities to visit the Santa Maria in October including Experience Columbus Days.

The  photos of  the Santa Maria and Columbus  are from tlarrow’s photostream on Flickr.  The photos are licensed with a Creative Commons license.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/10141806@N04/ / CC BY-SA 2.0

I have photos somewhere of a Talk Like a Pirate Weekend a few years back.  They are probably on ColumbusBestBlog.com…  my photos are NOT as good.

I got a cute little ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ graphic via email yesterday.  I assumed it was from the official Talk Like a Pirate site.  It is not.  It is from an SEO / infographic site.  I shared the graphic on Pinterest yesterday.

Independents’ Day

This is a good weekend to head downtown because in addition to Talk Like a Pirate Day at the Santa Maria, it is Independents Day September 20 to 22, 2013.  Independents Day has a website with all the details.

Things to do in Columbus and beyond this weekend

It’s also a good day for other events in central Ohio.  The Experience Columbus site is always a great place to find things to do in Columbus, Ohio.

Saturday is Market Day in Worthington.   My second annual day of not being in Worthington on Market Day but that’s another story.   There is no Farmers Market in Worthington this Saturday morning.

Sunday is the New Albany Classic.  The full name of the event  is ‘The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix  & Family Day’  Or that was the name of the event last year.  I assume that is the name of the event this year.    I went  to the 15th annual New Albany Classic last year.   It was a lot of fun.

Things to do in Columbus, Ohio and beyond include Family Farm Day at VanScoy Farms in Ridgeway.  Where is Ridgeway, Ohio?   Ridgeway is the other side of Marysville, that is beyond.

Google / Wikipedia says of Ridgeway, Ohio

“Village in Ohio

Ridgeway is a village in Hardin and Logan counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 338 at the 2010 census. Wikipedia”

VanScoy Fams is at 18214 State Route 292, Ridgeway, Ohio 43345.   I like VanScoy Farm’s Bibb lettuce!

Family Farm Day is an opportunity to learn about agriculture and where food is grown.  There will be “Hayrides & more”

Pirates, Doughnuts, Santa Maria, Independents Day,  Market Day, Horses, family fun are things to do in Columbus this week and this weekend. If you  have a thing to do you want to share with others you can share it on Facebook on the 365 Things to do in Columbus Ohio Facebook page (there is a link in the sidebar of ColumbusBestBlog.com to the Facebook page.)  Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day Columbus
