Remember the Worthington Food Pantry

by Maureen McCabe on July 12, 2013

Remember the Worthington Food Pantry  if your garden produces too much of anything for you to deal with this summer.

The full name of the Worthington Food Pantry is ‘Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry.’  In a recent email a volunteer wrote:

“If you have any extra produce or know others who might have plenty, the food pantry would greatly appreciate any and all donations.”
A reminder in case anyone has  “Extra produce from the garden?”
  • Too many tomatoes to use up?
  • Bumper crop of beans?
  • Crop of carrots you can’t keep up with?
  • Bursting at the seams with beets?
  • The bounty of an overactive apple tree…
  •  A peach tree producing prolifically?
  • A serious supply of spinach?

I’m plum out of fruit and vegetable phrases but you get the idea.   Too much produce  to use up, can or process quickly?  Share it with your neighbors.

What’s in season now?  Is your zucchini crop coming in? and in and in and in?  Donate any extra produce to the Worthington Food Pantry or another local food pantry if they are equipped to handle it.

Other local food pantries include WARM in Westerville,  Clintonville has a food pantry, Dublin has a food pantry.  And of course there is the MidOhio Food Bank which orchestrates programs all over central Ohio (and beyond… I wish I could remember how many  counties they cover.)

Truth in advertising?  Or truth in blogging… that tomato is my tomato but it is a beautiful store bought tomato from Earth Fair, at Polaris.  I bought that tomato.  It is a recycled tomato photo from    Home grown tomatoes seldom look like that do they?   But even if home grown tomatoes are not that photogenic, they sure taste good.

I have a huge home grown zucchini photo on my phone…  unlike home grown  zucchini is always photogenic
