Green Schools in Ohio

Schools looking for funding from the  Ohio School Facilities Commission will need LEED certification:

“With a goal of meeting higher energy efficiency and environmental standards in new elementary and secondary schools, the commission has decided to adopt a widely used certification program as part of its building design requirements. All future projects will need to meet at least the silver certification standard of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Schools rating system and will be encouraged to reach even higher for LEED’s gold certification, said Michael Shoemaker, the commission’s executive director.”

The added expense of the LEED certification is questioned by some in the state…
