Curses Memed Again

by Maureen McCabe on February 5, 2008

globalI was memed by Lola Audu of Grand Rapids Michigan: Moi??? I’ve Been MeMe’d???
Lola was memed by Linda Scanlon of Fort Worth Texas: Moi??? I’ve Been MeMe’d???
Linda was memed by Ginger Wilcox of Marin County California: MEME- It shouldn’t be about ME, but today it is…

What is a meme? Joseph Ferrara on Sellsius°Real Estate Blog defined meme:

“A meme (rhymes with dream) is a catch phrase representing a contagious idea that spreads virally in a culture, like transparency, Web 2.0, Long Tail or maybe unzillowable. The word comes from the Greek meaning “mimic”. In the blogosphere, it’s a game of topic tag. You answer the topic question and pass it on to others to do the same. “

Seven random things about me…

1. I was the Mardi Gras Queen a couple of years ago. My office Central Ohio real estate office celebrates Mardi Gras. Happy Fat Tuesday…

2. I am very, very good at board games. Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit etc. I don’t play cards… can not remember how a game is played, one time to the next … I just don’t get it.

3. I took guitar lessons for years and can not play. I can’t read music. I can’t tune a guitar. I could play chords if someone would tune the guitar for me.

3. I don’t eat wheat. I am gluten intolerant. That means no Italian restaurants… No pasta, no pizza… but it also means no Chinese restaurants… lots of soy sauce has wheat. I eat a lot of Mexican food thanks to corn tortillas. There is gluten free pasta, gluten free soy sauce, gluten free bread, cookies, crackers etc.

4. I cheat a lot…on the gluten free diet. If you ever see me eating pizza or a doughnut slap me upside the head. I will be pay for eating it later but I don’t get as sick as some people do obviously or I’d just say no to wheat, barley, rye etc.

5. I’ve lived in Milwaukee WI, Waukesha WI, Madison WI, Green Bay WI (twice), Rockford IL, Akron OH, West Carrolton OH (Dayton area) and Columbus OH. I worked at a Girl Scout camp in Central Wisconsin one summer too, so I guess I lived there.. I think the mailing address was Westfield WI.

6. My middle name is Rose… (I am really, really scraping here.) I try my darnedest not to use my middle name.

7. I have been memed a lot… please no more…

Meme me up Scotty

Meme me once, meme me twice… meme me once again…

A Reading Rut – my top five books of all time

Media Consumption Diet – Central Ohio

Yeah it’s supposed to be for people on ActiveRain who blog outside of ActiveRain too… I see lots of the same people being tagged… by multiple people so I am going to tag locally… change the direction of the viral idea…

 I tag:

Haochi Chen of
Dave Scarpetti of Dave’s Beer
Tina of Omphaloskepsis
Paul of It’s a Paul World

Those are all local but Bonnie’s not… I miss her… Blogging Bonnie of Real Estate Snippets in St. Paul MN.

If you would be so kind as to play along… if not it’s OK. I’ll still love you… I mean your blog.

I love the name Rose, perhaps I associate it with a woman I knew whom I had great respect for. I have to get to mine, but like you…I’ve said all I can say. (or want to say)

Ugh. I swore off memes after the first one I did. They remind me of chain letters! But I’ll try to write something – for you, Maureen!

3 Maureen Rose McCabe February 5, 2008 at 11:18 am

I don’t mind Rose the way I used to. I hated it as a kid. I thought it was old ladyish. I think of it being a great middle name for a baby now. Emma Rose, Emily Rose, Taylor Rose… I have always had name issues.

I am an old lady now so it works for me.

I try to ignore the chain letterishness of memes when I can… in fact I blogged about that recently on ActiveRain where I talk to my peers about social media so I don’t do it here and bore people to death.

Of course my middle name, where I’ve lived, etc. etc. is not great reading either.

Don’t do it if you don’t want to. I swear this is my last meme. A woman in Connecticut (probably spelled wrong) Linda Davis in CT wrote a meme where she made stuff up.

I like memes like the one you did, the media meme or we did a book meme on ActiveRain better than things about people. Many people have got in their heads it is a me me… all about me… which is just a coincidence. I like Joe’s definition of a meme.

It’s tag, it’s a game. I prefer to think of it that way than as a chain letter

Wow Maureen. I am also gluten intolerant. I eat a ton of corn tortillas- even sometimes for breakfast with eggs. (I don’t eat dairy or sugar either). Makes it tough sometimes to eat out or travel. Those continental breakfasts just won’t do.

I would love to see pictures of the Mardi Gras Queen!

now I am logged in so I can’t leave my comment as Maureen Rose McCabe… oh well.

I live on corn tortillas Ginger because I don’t like most of the gluten free breads. I love gluten free pasta though… or I’ve got used to it. I had celiacs disease as a kid and outgrew it, three of the six kids in my family had celiacs disease but I grew back into gluten intolerance a number of years back.

I eat lots of sugar and dairy though…

I had to scrape on my meme, too. I just figured everyone must just about know anything at this point and if they didn’t am I really that special to have anyone want to know more. Really, it’s not like I’m bipolar running around without britches right? LOL

Hi Maureen…Fellow Badger. :) The one good thing about memes I guess is that you sometimes discover stuff like that which you have in common with someone else. I absolutely loved my time in Madison. Can you believe I studied nutrition in college…so, I was well versed in the nuances of food allergies. Now…for the record, there will not be a Meme about how a dietician became a real estate broker. :)

Enjoyed reading your meme & would totally enjoy a good game of Scrabble. :)

Chris… I am done with memes forever I think…

Lola … It’s always a pleasure to have a Badger stop by… I play Scrabble cut throat…

9 Bonnie Erickson February 6, 2008 at 01:28 am

Ach! Nooooo! I don’t want to do another meme! You’ll have to check it out tomorrow. I’m typing it tonight.

10 Maureen McCabe February 6, 2008 at 04:03 am

I read it.

I think I left a comment but I don’t see it.

Tina did hers…

What a good sport… even with memes being chain letter like….
