2012: Columbus is HOT

by Maureen McCabe on July 7, 2012

July 6, 2012 unofficial Columbus, Ohio 105 degrees

It was a mere 100 degrees officially on July 6, 2012 at Port Columbus.  A record breaker…

This thermometer in Far North Columbus (between Worthington and Polaris) read 108 degrees and a little bit later when when this photo was shot 105 degrees. I think the angle of the sun, the reflection off window and a concrete patio make this thermometer read high in the late afternoon.

Yesterday’s Columbus Dispatch article titled  “Hitting 100 Degrees Rare in Columbus”  tells about the hot years.  1988 and 1936.

Today’s forecast:  102 degrees.

2012 temperatures we will be talking about them for years.

I’m a new resident at Columbus OH, having moved in from Boston in late May. Before anything else, thanks for putting up http://www.columbusbestblog.com. The info here has helped me settle in.

For me, one of the outstanding aspects of life here thus far in contrast to the East Coast is the prolonged heat we’ve had. And, I should also say, the fact that people I’ve met are *extremely friendly*. :-) I was in was in New Albany, near Blendon Woods park, when the derecho struck. As of last Friday afternoon (I flew back East again this weekend), we still didn’t have power. I’m hoping we do by the time we fly back.

Here’s a post on my pesonal blog about the damage visited by the storm in the N. Hamilton Road area intersecting Dublin-Granville. If you’re interested, it has photos of the disaster there –  http://nibofthought.info/blog/2012/07/01/current-events/violent-summer-storm-hits-columbus-ohio/690

Cheers,

Welcome to Columbus Dennis and family. This is not our weather and I hope it goes back where it belongs now. I hope our July mid 80 degree’s temperature highs come back to stay. Our real Columbus weather is a little too humid for my taste but our real weather is way better than what we have all experienced in 2012.

Your storm photos are great. Your post is great!

I hope your electricity is back on. Thanks for the comment.

Dennis your post will not let me leave a comment! I tried twice. The math problem… I tried numbers other than the true answer but it would not take my comment.
