A Columbus commercial broker keyword stuffing the name line on his comment reminded me I meant to post a policy about using names when commenting on a post here.

I became aware a couple of “friends” from a real estate network were using keywords in place of their name a couple of months ago. I should have posted my comment policy then.

If you leave a comment, put a name in the name slot. Do not put keywords. Your name is not “Office Broker” (I think that was the keyword he was spamming.) I am still trying to decide what to do with the two “Office Broker” comments left on my site. I have options:

Delete the comments?
Edit the keywords out of the comment?
Remove the link?

If you do not want to use YOUR real name when commenting use a pseudonym. Suggestions? John Smith, John Doe, SpongebBob SquarePants. I don’t have a problem with anonymity. I have a problem with keyword spam.

I’m feeling a blog post about the best commercial real estate company in town coming on…

According to WordPress.com (this is a WordPress.org site but in 2011 I started using a WordPress.com plugin so they sent me an email about 2011 on ColumbusBestBlog.com) about what was the most popular post on this site:

Columbus Trick or Treat – 2011

It is not really a big surprise. I could tell from traffic (looking at Google Analytics) that Columbus likes Halloween. I knew from other years that central Ohio needs to know when “Beggars Night” or “trick or treat” is in each local community. When does Worthington trick or treat? When is “Beggar’s Night in Hilliard?” Lewis Center, Powell, Westerville, etc.

The Best of ColumbusBestBlog.com (the top 5 posts on ColumbusBestBlog.com) in 2011 according to WordPress.com:

1. Columbus Trick or Treat – 2011 posted September 2011
2. Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America – 2011 posted June 2011
3. Beggars’ Night in Columbus Ohio posted October 2010
4. 365 Things to Do in Columbus Ohio this weekend posted June 2010
5. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – a Columbus neighborhood posted August 2011

The traffic on #3 (Halloween post for 2010) was how I knew to write the 2011 post about central Ohio trick or treat times. Here’s a hint about number 2, Columbus did NOT make that list. The number one place that sent traffic to this site in 2011 was Facebook. I would guess the page about “365 Things to do in Columbus Ohio” and let me stress the Ohio in that…

I don’t believe I added the WordPress.com plugin until mid year so I am not sure this is the entire 2011 year or not. Not sure how the WordPress.com plugin is measuring traffic.

My blog had nothing to do with hurricanes. It was about Columbus.

This WordPress site is ColumbusBestBlog.com all smooshed together. Perhaps at first I did NOT make that distinction. My original blog got a name change when I started this blog in December 2006 / January 2007. I gave it another name… then stole that for another blog I could never kill that first blog.

The plaque on the building at 679 and 681 High Street in Worthington says “Worthington Hotel” and it was a hotel, a home, a newspaper office, a surveyors office, a funeral home and more. Shops. It’s probably been a number of different shops over the years. Most recently it was the Curio Cabinet and Christmas Village.

The plaque from the Worthington Historical Society on the Kilbourne Commercial Building, a historical building in a historical district says:

Worthington Hotel
The Sign of the Sun
Public Entertainment

“To friends both old and new accommodations are tendered as good as the best; should anyone doubt this, he is respectfully requested to come and see.” James Kilbourne Proprietor December 1, 1845

1845 accommodations for travelers… since so many different uses.

In 2011, 679 High Street is going to be a toy store? I am not keeping up. I thought it was going to be an oil store. Scented oils? Those plans did not go through last week I heard it is going to be a toy store.

681 High Street is going to be a real estate office. The sign is up. The new sign that says Real Living HER is up on the building at 681 High St. Worthington, Ohio 43085.

The office at 681 High St. Worthington, Ohio 43085 is going to be the official home of ColumbusBestBlog.com too. Although ColumbusBestBlog.com is not all real estate, it is part real estate and it needs an address, so this is it… it was a newspaper office, a surveyors office, it was a funeral home… why not a “blog” or two… or three..
